You can find good deals on almost everything you need on internet auction sites. There is almost nothing that you can’t find over the internet. You can find great deals on Avon collectables’ collectable toys’ sports memorabilia’ or anything else that you can think of on auction sites such as ebay.com and ubid.com.

Most people think of eBay when they think of online auctions’ but Ubid has everything that you could need in an internet auction website. There are many things that you can find on Ubid that you can’t find using traditional stores.

You can find out of stock items’ specialty collectables or many other items on websites such as Ubid’ eBay and Yahoo Auctions. The advantage of sites such as these is that you’re fairly assured of getting the fair market value for your items. This is good for both the buyer and the seller.

These types of websites can sell items for you that are hard to sell outside of an internet website. If you have a lot of items to sell’ but can’t afford a storefront’ don’t want to sell items on consignment’ or live in a smaller community’ you can make a lot of great deals selling your items in online auctions.

You Can Sell Your Items on Ubid

Many different types of items are sold on Ubid and eBay. Collectables generally do very well on Ubid. Many collectors watch the internet websites for great auctions. You can also find deals on anything you need on eBay or Ubid.

There are some differences from one auction site to another’ so if you’re used to eBay it pays to spend a little time getting to know the way the other sites work. For example’ Yahoo Auctions automatically extends the ending time of an auction if there is a bid in the last couple of minutes. This prevents last-second sniping like you often see on eBay.

John Lenaghan writes about eBay and other online auctions for the Online Auction Advisor website’ where he writes about things such as dropshippers‘ how to make money on eBay and many other auction-related topics.

As some of you know’ I spent many years buying and selling both on and offline and several of my products are based upon my own experience in this area. I know that the vast majority of my customers and subscribers have an interest in trading whether it be on eBay or at the local market but more and more I am seeing people with completely unrealistic expectations of what they will be able to do. Most commonly these unrealistic expectations are in respect of how much it actually costs to purchase specific products and what they can then be sold on for.

I regularly get emails from people who want to know where they can purchase products such as mobile (cell) phones’ new release DVDs’ Playstation games and similar at’ say’ a 50% discount to resell on eBay. The fact is that such a thing is not available – it is a simple case of supply and demand and competition.

Take DVDs for example’ most people think that these are excellent products to resell on eBay because they are very popular’ not particularly expensive and easy to package and ship. Unfortunately’ they could not be more wrong. The DVD market is one of the most competitive that there is – take a look for yourself and see how many auctions there are on eBay for DVDs at any one time. I have just looked and counted almost 300’000! At any one time there will only be a certain number of buyers wanting to purchase a particular DVD and if you take into account the numerous different places there are that each buyer could purchase from’ it is likely that in general’ there will be more copies of an individual DVD available than there are buyers to purchase them. This situation causes prices to fall. The other factor that forces prices down is the fact that one DVD is the same as another. By this I mean that from a buyers point of view’ there is no difference to a new DVD purchased on eBay to one which is purchased from their local DVD store. Often the only way to differentiate is on price and of course’ the only way to make the price more attractive to a buyer is to lower it.

The above reasons help to explain why the wholesale discount on a new release DVD is just 1 or 2 at most ($2 or $3 roughly in the US). When you take into account the fact that the large retail chains can purchase thousands of DVDs at a time and receive a bigger discount than individual traders’ you soon see why it is very difficult for a small business to compete in such a competitive industry. You simply cannot purchase new release DVDs at 50% discount and even if you could’ it wouldn’t be long before prices were forced down as there is always someone willing to sell a little bit cheaper than the next man.

It isn’t just DVDs that fall into this category. Take mobile (cell) phones. Here in the UK you can walk down just about any high street and get the latest phones either free or for a minimal token payment. The stores are relying on making their money from the line rental contract that you will have to sign in order to get the phone. Of course’ the actual cost of the phone is not free – most new mobiles are actually worth 200 or 300 which means that if you want to buy a batch of phones at wholesale’ you are going to be looking at a pretty high unit cost. As with most electrical products’ the market is competitive and prices have been forced down which means that the difference between your wholesale buying price and your retail selling price is minimal.

There are numerous products that suffer from the same market conditions as DVDs and phones and new/small traders really should avoid trying to sell such items at all costs because it will usually be frustrating and ultimately not financially rewarding. When trying to decide what products to sell’ you need to be thinking about the type of market that a particular product is sold in. If there are already numerous sellers and many large companies selling at considerable discounts this is far from ideal. The exception to the rule is if you are able to add value in some way to make your ‘offering’ more unique. I wrote about adding value last year in one of my newsletters – you can read it here: http://www.thetraderonline.com/jul2204.html

At the end of the day’ it is all about research’ being realistic and having an understanding of the market that you want to operate in. Whilst it would be great to be able to buy and sell new release DVDs (or whatever) all day long’ doubling your money every time’ I am afraid that this is just not going to happen.

Why sell paper piecings on eBay?

eBay is a great way to make a steady part-time or full-time income from a hobby that you love! Selling paper piecings has its ups and downs’ but overall it is a rewarding and lucrative venture.

Getting and Understanding An eBay Account

To get started selling paper piecings on eBay’ you will need to set up an account. If you already have an account’ you many want to consider changing your user ID to reflect your status as a Paper Piecer. Find something that can be easily abbreviated for your titles so that you can create a name for yourself that is easy for potential customers to find. You can also use your entire ID in your titles. Some examples are:

User ID is a*scrapfanatic and abbreviation in titles is A*
User ID is CherryRedSpyder and abbreviation is CHeRRYReD
User ID is Luvspaper and uses luvspaper in titles

If you don’t yet have an account and want some information on starting to sell’ visit http://pages.ebay.com/help/basics/n-selling.html

This will give you detailed step-by-step instructions to help you get started!

When you are ready to list’ keep these things in mind:

Choose a Category
Paper Piecing = 11792 OR
Toys&Hobbies’ Hobbies&Crafts’ Arts&Crafts’ Scrapbooking’ PaperPiecing

Title
Make sure it contains the phrase “paper piecing” (without the quotation marks) since many people find these items by searching for “paper piecing” in the titles. Also try to include an abbreviation of your user ID to help create a recognizable name for your paper piecings. If there is room’ try to list any extras you have in your auction such as shaker’ beads’ buttons’ etc.

Description
Start your description by giving all of the basic information about the paper piecing that you made. List the dimensions and a brief description of each part of the set.

Also let people know if you used pens and chalks to add detail to your sets. If any part of your set is computer generated’ it is a good idea to note this in the auction.

Let everyone know whether your background paper is included or not.

Make sure you let your potential customers know if you use all acid-free’ lignin-free products when making your sets. A lot of people also list information such as “comes from a pet-free’ smoke-free home.”

At the end of the description list all payment and shipping information.

You want to make sure that customers know the following: what payment methods you accept/ prefer’ your shipping rate’ how the items will be packed’ whether or not you offer insurance and how much you charge’ and your email address for any questions.

Minimum Bid
Set the price at the absolute minimum you are willing to accept for this paper piecing. Most auctions start in the $3-10 range. Adjust your minimum bid price according to time’ materials used’ and the detail of the piece.

Auction Duration
You have a choice of 3′ 5′ 7′ and 10 day auctions. Most paper piecers use either 5 or 7 day auctions. It is a good idea to have your auction extend over Sunday evenings because it is a very busy time.

Learning About Optional Photo Hosting Services for High Quality Photos eBay allows you to host one photo per auction free of charge. This is a great service’ but unfortunately the photos are not very clear. To get the clearest photos possible’ find a photo hosting service. Some free and easy to use options are http:// www.photobucket.com and http://www.webphoto.com There are also low cost’ reliable options like http://www.villagephoto.com It is a good idea to use a photo hosting service along with the free eBay photo in case one of the services “goes down.” This way people can still see some type of photo for the auction.

Studying The Paper Piecing Auction Market
To see which paper piecings are selling the best’ go to http://www.eBay.com and type “paper piecing” in the search box. When the search results page comes up’ click on “Highest Priced First.” This will allow you to browse through the best-selling auctions. Take notes. Note which themes and styles are selling well and try to come up with original designs that fit into those themes/styles. You can also click on “Completed Items” to see what the end price was for recently listed auctions.

Copyright Issues
Did you know that each time you create an original paper piecing it automatically has copyright protection? You do not need to register a creation to have it protected.

It is a good idea to put a notice with your auctions when it is an original design. If you are using a pattern from a Tole/Pattern book’ you should not use a copyright notice. A basic copyright notice looks like this:

Copyright 2002 Your Name Here

This also means that all of those other original paper piecings that are listed on eBay are protected. It is okay to browse around and get ideas and inspiration’ but you should never make copies of paper piecing that you see.

For more information on basic copyright protection’ visit http://www.nolo.com

Are you on the road yet? If not’ pony up your?.um’ pony and pretend that you are gracefully cantering down the road toward that state called Authentic. Imagine that you’re riding smoothly just like in the movies. But all of a sudden’ your pony hits a rock and you go flying. This will happen. Perhaps not while riding a pony’ but in some way as you are living your Authentic Self. Roadblocks surface usually when you’re in a wonderful flow’ suddenly turning harmonious song into banshee wail. Here are a few tricky roadblocks to watch out for:

Invisible Rules-These are declarations which appear to be universally subscribed to as long-accepted truisms. They seem unquestionably abided by but they actually aren’t. We are often not aware of the Invisible Rules that we follow: "My hair & make-up have to be ‘done’ before I leave the house" or "Women over a certain age should not work short skirts." Invisible Rules create an obstacle because they stop us in our Authentic Self tracks by requiring that we change who we are in order to be like ‘everybody else” to conform. They trip us up by their false appearance. ‘Everybody else’ does their hair before they head out the front door. Or do they?

Bright Shiny Objects- They glitter’ vibrate’ bounce or blink. In short’ they distract. While BSO’s might not lead you away from your Authentic Self forever’ they do prevent you from fully living your Authentic Self. BSOs act like sugar; they don’t add anything to our Authentic Self diet’ just a momentary false high. BSOs are different for everyone. To determine yours’ ask yourself what your not-so-obvious weaknesses are. These can be an area that has been a strength but presently may be over-accessed or used as a crutch. BSO’s sometimes show up in these areas. One huge BSO for me is the Internet. I sometimes gorge myself by replying to non-essential emails right away or perusing various sites under the guise of ‘research’ when I really need to be working on program design for a new client. The distracting dazzle doesn’t last long once you feel the absence of Authentic fulfillment.

Indigenous Excuses- These suckers are so deeply ingrained in your persona that you probably don’t even notice their presence. Indigenous Excuses are dangerous because they become like a truth in our mind so since we aren’t tuned into hearing the difference’ we live our life by a false truth. Some examples are: "I can’t afford to advertise" or "It’s not the right time to _____ (fill in the blank here: look for a new job’ buy a house’ start dating again)". Be aware that what you’re really saying here is "I won’t" as in "I won’t advertise my company" or "I won’t admit that I am looking for a perfect {read: non-existent} time to start _____." Indigenous Excuses don’t allow our Authentic Self to move forward because they keep us stuck in the realm of the changeless past that wasn’t working in the first place.

Temptation of Perfection- Perfection can creep into an Authentic Self project or it can worm its way into a conversation. Perfect is the anti-Authentic. When we attempt to introduce perfectionism into something’ the Authentic Self ceases to exist. One way that perfection enters conversations is by the need to have the last word or to make someone else’s point of view wrong. Instead of allowing perfection in’ develop your outside eye-the watcher who observes your actions and thoughts with detachment. Allow that eye to peer into your interactions and act as a guard against the tendency toward perfection. Once perfectionism is spotted’ it is easier to stop’ drop and roll?and get back to living your Authentic Self.

Once you’ve identified what roadblocks you are the most susceptible to’ it is easier to deal with them. Acknowledge them for what they are. Ultimately these roadblocks are non-essential Authentic Self traps that we fall into’ either deliberately as an avoidance method or unintentionally as a bad habit that we hadn’t known we had. What distracts you from your Authentic Self? Which roadblock causes particular chaos in your life? Let me know. Now’ where did that pony go?

“Organisms do not experience environments’ they create them.”
— From A Simpler Way’ by Margaret Wheatley

Walking down Lincoln Avenue in Portsmouth’ I am struck by the beauty of the day ? forsythia’ tulips and daffodils’ bright sun’ warm breeze ? and the freedom and privilege I have to walk in a healthy body’ through a friendly neighborhood’ of my own volition. I think about how much I take for granted’ and how easy it is to feel centered and content when life is easy’ flowing’ and conflict free.

The day before was not so. It was rainy’ windy’ and cold. I hadn’t slept and woke up short-tempered and irritable. (Will winter never end?!) A project I’d been putting off could not be postponed any longer’ and I knew I had to finish it even though I had no inspiration for it. My body ached from hard aikido practice the night before’ and I felt tired and lacked energy. I opened a window and spilled a potted plant all over my office floor. And the last piece of my favorite toasting bread had mysteriously disappeared from its storage place. Tomorrow ? who knows? As my friend Carol says’ life can fall on your head at any moment.

So how do I walk my talk’ change my attitude’ adjust my goals’ and reinvent my life even when I don’t feel like it? I kept thinking: You can do this’ this is great’ exactly what you look for ? ideal opportunities to practice . . . center’ breathe’ laugh. Sure’ it’s easy to be centered when things are going your way. This is the perfect day to practice ? when they aren’t.

I’m embarrassed to say that it was still hard. The only good news that I was able to give myself was that I noticed. I could see I was having a “pity party’” which was a step in the right direction. Friend and colleague’ Joy Jacobs’ calls this ability to step outside our selves and acknowledge our reactions meta-communication. My meta-communicator is the role that says’ Hey’ Judy’ you’re really having a strong reaction to that plant falling over. Whoah! Are you sure you want to throw it through the window? Right’ probably not.

The meta-communicator is the insulation between my reaction and my response. It keeps me from getting dragged down an emotionally reactive path that I will probably regret. The ability to meta-communicate is a sign of emotional intelligence’ analogous to self-awareness’ and essential to self-control. Without the ability to meta-communicate’ I get lost in the emotion and identify with it. There is no distance’ no separation between me and my mental state; the attitude’ emotion’ or mood overrides conscious thought and takes me wherever it wants. I can only talk about the emotion again (like this) when it’s played itself out and I regain the ability to see it.

Centering awakens the meta-communicator. Taking a moment of literal and figurative inspiration ? breathing and connecting to my power source ? gives me the time and the space to decide if I want to get dragged off or not.

Pity parties are fun sometimes. I can enjoy getting together telephonically or in person with special friends. We dress up in our best long-suffering attitudes and moan about this event or that person’ how much work there is to do and how little time. We bring our meta-communicators along’ and we laugh at ourselves in the midst of our complaining. It’s a lot more fun to whine with awareness.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama said’ “If you don’t like what’s happening in your life’ change your mind.” How do you like what’s happening in your life at the moment? I realize it may be a lot more challenging than winter weather in May. Still’ gently experiment with changing your relationship to life events’ and see what happens.

When I am willing and able to do this’ to change my mind’ everything changes. It begins by noticing my reactive state.
I’m upset.
Okay – Upset Energy. How can I use it in a way that’s congruent with my values and vision?
I take charge of it’ before it takes charge of me.
I begin to travel a path of power and presence’ instead of a path of reactivity and regret.

As I place that bit of padding between my reaction and my response’ I reclaim my power. I reconnect with what is really important. Why am I here? What do I want to contribute to this workplace’ this family unit’ this relationship? What are my hopes for this conversation? How will I impact this meeting?

More sunny days and uplifting moments are on the horizon. But whatever the external or internal weather conditions’ I am protected by an inner spring of insight that is always awake’ aware’ and available to be turned on at any moment. And I remember all that I have to be grateful for’ including the privilege of having unsettling emotions.

How are you inventing your life today’ this moment? Is life a struggle’ or does it flow? It’s possible that the answers are really up to you.

I’d like to share a story with you about two interesting people that we ALL know.

Ms. Jane D. Acceptor thinks’ “I got this dead-end job’ I’m bored to tears’ but hey–it pays my bills. It keeps a roof over my head. So what I hate what I do’ and I’m not crazy about the people I work with …it’s a job. Aren’t you supposed to hate your job?”

Jane goes through life just accepting how it all turns out. But Mrs. Wendy Ago-Getter was a different animal. She used to be in Jane’s place’ she actually worked in the cubicle right next to her. She and Jane used to complain’ complain’ and complain about how their boss was an idiot’ how management had no clue’ and about how other co-workers got on their nerves. Sure they weren’t the nicest things to say about others’ but they had a roaring good time doing it!

They were bitter and thrived off of each other’s negative energy. They threw pity parties on a daily basis on Instant messenger and on their lunch breaks.

But then…something changed. Wendy’s Husband’ Mr. Getter introduced her to the law of attraction’ because quite frankly’ her bad attitude was bringing him down and causing their marriage to get a bit rocky. Once Wendy started to become aware of how she allowed her energy to flow’ she also noticed how depression and unhappiness took control of her life. It seemed as if she WANTED this for herself. And it was at this moment when she realized she had the power to make a change. With this gradual mental shift…she started to get to know ‘Wendy’ a bit more. She started to dig deep for her inner power.

When Wendy had free time’ she wrote children’s books and found pleasure in this craft. Whenever she got home’ and she put her 5 year old to bed’ she wrote. She loved her newly rediscovered imagination where all her stories stemmed. After all’ it came natural to her. It was so easy to create fun characters. What she loved most was reading them to her daughter and seeing that smile on her face as she entered that imaginary land with her.

Well’ Jane thought she was just ridiculous. Writing children’s books’ COME ON’ GET REAL! Jane became jealous when Wendy slowly started to pull away from her. The lunch breaks went down from two a week to none a week. Wendy enjoyed writing in the park on her break instead. Wendy felt alive again…she had so much fun doing writing.

One day Wendy’s daughter brought her favorite book to school so that the teacher could read it to the class. The teacher was thoroughly impressed with her writing style. She was especially taken aback at the student’s reaction to the story. They LOVED it! Turns out the teacher’s brother was an agent for authors and the teacher didn’t hesitate to set up a meeting with him and Wendy.

Wendy couldn’t believe it…. “My little old books? It was just a hobby. I would do it for free’” she raved. But then she started to accept her gift and realized that she did deserve whatever was coming to her. She started to picture her book on shelves of books stores’ she imagined children in the park reading the books’ she saw her daughter bragging about her mom–the author! Positive visualization became her daily habit. Her husband shared with her that her mental shift is what caused these changes in her life. There are NO COINCIDENCES…

A month later’ her company downsized her department and of course that was no surprise. She received a pretty good severance and was actually thrilled for the opportunity to write more. Turns out’ her new agent landed her a bidding war for her books. Simon & Schuster and Random house wanted a two-book deal from her. They were up to 50k for her advance; she hoped it would go even higher!

Could this be happening? Wendy and her husband were practically floating from the stream of good news. It was like a darn fairly tale in one of her books.

Funny enough… Jane D. Acceptor didn’t get laid off. She was transferred to another department and given even more work to cover all of the folks that left. Jane wasn’t happy about it…but of course’ what the heck could she do? The fact is…she could do a whole lot. We are all deliberate creators of our lives. Wendy was just existing but not living.

News flash: Continue living your life as a victim and focusing on what’s wrong with everything’ placing blame on everyone’ will only bring more of what you DON’T want into your life.

How ’bout looking in the mirror and starting there. Where we are right this very second’ is because of what we have done in our past. The fact is…that fairy tale that Wendy is now living is very possible. You can do a 360 with your career’ with your business’ with your relationships…when you are not sleep-walking through life. When you take the blinders off and start paying attention to exactly what you are putting out there…

It’s sad to say that we have all been brainwashed into thinking that most of our desires are not only self-serving egotistical no-no’s but absurdly impossible.

BEING THE REVOLUTION OF A NEW OUTLOOK ON YOUR FUTURE…

1. Spend time alone’ get to know yourself. Journal your dreams’ meditate’ pray’ read self-help books’ do whatever works for you at your pace’ but make time to do it! Have tons of people in the house? Go for a daily walk’ go to the library’ get a baby sitter…Just do it alone!

2. Find out what your true calling is. What are you really here to do? (Business Coach’ Crystal Dewberry will talk more about this below…)

3. Get rid of the “Jane’s” in your life. Do away with the toxic people…the emotional vampires that suck the life right out of you. These are the people who enjoy being depressed and want to take you along with the ride.

4. Surround yourself with go getters not accepters!

5. Say no to pity parties. The second you feel one coming on’ switch it around and start thinking about what positive outcome you want. You know a pity party is on it’s way when you start thinking’ “Why does this always have to happen to me? I’ll never be able to pay my bills! I’m such a loser I can never find the right mate’ etc…”

Our journey through life can lead us to surprising and unexpected destinations. Life as in nature has no straight lines. It is overflowing with corners’ curves’ dips’ and unpredictable twists and turns. In life you might find yourself on a straight route for a period of time’ but don’t expect it to last. Up ahead there may be a sudden detour and you could find yourself going off in a completely different direction’ backtracking’ or moving into virgin territory. At some point in time’ life will bring each of us to the point of dealing with the necessity to alter’ modify or adjust ourselves in response to life’s circumstances. How you cope with this depends on your interpretation of change and your relationship to the experience.

There are times when change comes about through difficult situations which cause us to interrogate ourselves about our choices and the underlying motives. Asking’ “What did I miss?” or “What went wrong?” We wonder if we have made a mistake. Often we feel defeated’ angry or victimized by the experience. Sometimes we slip into the blame game’ placing the responsibility onto God’ life or someone else for what has happened. How do you react when you are challenged in this way? For those on the spiritual path’ these doubts can be very challenging and anxiety provoking. What is true here is that contained in this experience is an opportunity to grow’ learn and evolve. When change comes’ it is an invitation to raise your consciousness’ reclaim your power’ and become more of your authentic self.

This potential for transformation needs you to stop’ be still and go inside to reflect and reassess. Once I had a dream of waiting with my car at a four way stop intersection. There was no traffic going in any direction. I was there good-naturedly polishing the chrome and the windows of the car until they sparkled. I could leave at any time but it was clear I was waiting for instructions. I was not in any hurry. I was whistling and waiting patiently. I was fully confident I would be guided at the right time to the right place. In the dream it made perfect sense but in life’ it is not always so simple or clear.

The exploration and validation of intuition is a unique process for each individual. To find your personal truth around this’ contemplate the following questions. “Is what I think’ feel or hear as guidance the true promptings of my higher self?” “Can I identify without a doubt the whisperings of my soul?” When you desire to know the real truth’ you must look even deeper. How do you know for sure the cleaver’ seductive ego is simply telling you what you want to hear or casting a shadow over the reality? The message may simply be an unconscious expression of the fragmented ego based on fear’ pride’ or grandiosity.

The human ego is a powerful’ controlling force made up of many diverse identities and voices that comprise our personalities. The ego thinks it knows everything and is convinced “it” is the totality of who we are. This is a lie. The ego’s survival is based on the ability to keep us isolated or separate from our true nature. The essential need of the ego is to satisfy its desires and cravings based on our personal view of reality. Made up of limiting beliefs’ dysfunctional behaviors’ repetitive patterns’ and distorted memories from the past’ this reality is an illusion.

Many of the messages we hear are designed to maintain the grip of the ego over the divine aspect of ourselves. Its power and strength is not to be underestimated’ especially when it is faced with the tremendous growth potential present during times of change. It will fight hard because to lose is to die. As we address directly our distorted and sabotaging beliefs’ release fear and judgment and heal the physical body’ our divine connection strengthens. Step by step’ the projections fall away’ power is reclaimed and self esteem is restored. As we intentionally work and clear our personal issues’ the more conscious and aware we become. We develop the ability to see and avoid the pitfalls and distractions that wait for us on the path.

The journey to the “Authentic Self” is the process of becoming perfect’ whole and complete just as we are. The work we do with the breath supports the connection to spirit and gives access to the unconscious levels of our existence. This natural’ organic process is the fast track to the destination as we move into the brightness of authenticity. Through the integration of the physical’ emotional’ mental and spiritual levels’ our hearts open wide and love begins to flow. Transformation occurs’ reconnecting us with our purity and innocence. This enables us to trust the connection with our guidance system as our “knowing” has taken its rightful place. Our ability to listen and differentiate truth from non truth is the gift of faith. Every experience we encounter and each person we meet is viewed from a perspective of love and light. Yes’ the journey continues but it is richer and more rewarding as we gracefully surrender to the flow of life. It is only by going down into the abyss that we recover the treasures of life.
